About the Artist

As far back as I can remember I have been looking for insights into one enduring question . . . Why are we here? This inquiry has burned inside me like an inextinguishable flame. In the pursuit of it I have followed many paths involving an abundance of different people, places, spiritual practices and philosophies. I don’t claim to have mastered the question, as a matter of fact, the inquiry itself has led to yet more questions about the nature of consciousness and our existence here on earth, and beyond.

The closest I have come to resolution of sorts as to why we are here is summed up in this quote from Erich Fromm, “Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself.” I believe this is a powerful answer.  My art is all about giving birth to myself . . . following a deep inner call that for me, must be answered. Every canvas is a page in the book of my life, living the questions.

In art I have found a language for the inexpressible, what in words is clumsy at best . . . Art is the language of the soul and soul is what I paint.  I call my work Inner Landscapes . . . Art for Awakening. It is my sincere hope that my abstract images that don’t necessarily give you immediate answers, will, with reflection, provoke and stimulate an inquiry into birthing the life you came here to live.

Nothing delights me more than to speak to the journey that has been mine as an artist, and the importance and relevance of art in our hurting, challenged world. I invite you to come spend some time in the presence of my art in Loomis Hall  Gallery, 288 Martin St., Blaine, WA Open Tues.-Sat., 11-6. Give me a call in advance if you’d like to make sure I’ll be there!

For Good Will & Grins,

Nancy Emeral
